netVigilance Inc. announces the introduction of CVSS.

Standardized Severity Ratings of Vulnerabilities improves overall performance.

BEAVERTON, Oregon -- May 6, 2005- netVigilance Inc., home of SecureScout™ advanced Network Vulnerability Assessment and Management software for corporations is the first to introduce Common Vulnerability Scoring System in Vulnerablility Assessment.

"The Security industry has adopted the standard CVE but with each vendor inventing their own rating system. Now with the proposed standard method of rating vulnerabilities; it will be much easier to agree on a severity level" said Jesper Jurcenoks of netVigilance; and he continues "Some customers have approached us with questions to why we rate a vulnerability as high while another vendor rates the same vulnerability as low. The calculations behind the CVSS base score are complex but stringent and open so anybody can validate the result."

All new vulnerabilities will be rated according to CVSS and a process has been started to rate old vulnerabilities over time. CVSS is used in reporting starting with this week's release of SecureScout NX 1.9.155.0 and SecureScout SP 1.9.150.155
