netVigilance Inc. announces WinHoneyd™ Open Source Honeypot for Windows
Catch worms and hackers with new honeyd for Windows
PORTLAND, Oregon -- October 24, 2006- netVigilance, Inc., the Windows-based leader in network Vulnerability Assessment
(VA) announced today the release of WinHoneyd™, an Open Source low-interaction
honeypot for Windows based on Honeyd, the Unix/Linux platform developed by Niels Provos.
The netVigilance WinHoneyd solution can simulate big network structures with different
Operating Systems (OS) on a single host; thereby hosts running different services can be
simulated through a central WinHoneyd.
"We developed WinHoneyd since we recognized the need for an Open Source Windows-based
solution based on the popular Honeyd virtual honeypot," stated Jesper Jurcenoks, CTO
at netVigilance, Inc. "By providing a free, open access, downloadable solution for network
surveillance and early-warning from potential attackers, we believe the industry will
benefit from this contribution."
The netVigilance WinHoneyd product is available free of charge and is ideally suited
for networking professionals who are seeking a solution for Windows and are familiar
with Linux Honeyd. Go to http://www.netvigilance.com/winhoneyd to download WinHoneyd.
Please note that netVigilance, Inc. cannot provide customer support since this solution
is free, however, the company is currently developing a commercial GUI for configuring
WinHoneyd which will be delivered later in 2006. Paid support is available.
